Early October Walleyes

Yesterday I headed out to one of the dropoffs and anchored in 9 feet of water for some jigging for walleyes. I was using the standard 1/16th oz charteuse jig head with fathead minnows. In late afternoon I was catching perch on almost every cast. As the sun hit the treetops things began to change. The perch let up and the walleye bite was on! I boated 5 walleyes in around an hour of fishing. I left as it was getting dark since I was fishing alone but the bite was still on as I was leaving. They seemed to be getting bigger as it got darker.

I'll need to get out with one of my friends and hit the hot spot until a bit after dark and see how late the bite continues after sunset. Great fall fishing is on!
