Nick Cave on Lollapalooza in 1994

We were basically playing to empty stadiums. We were just on the wrong bill at the wrong time. Something like that. People decided it was a good time to go and buy a burrito. I mean, Green Day were on almost first, 11 o'clock or something like that. Between the time they were booked and the time they did the tour, they'd become monstrous. There were thousands of people crushed up to the front to watch Green Day. Then they kind of hung around for L7, and then it's like, "here comes Nick Cave, let's go and get a burrito." And it was sort of 53 dates of that. But I think we did some really good shows because of that. They were really extreme and... I don't know. George Clinton really liked us. That was a good thing.

Back from Paradise

Just got back from another nice weekend of hunting. It was cool but beautiful out in the woods. It started out at around 12 degrees on Friday, but it warmed up to around 40. I didn't see any deer this weekend but it was well worth it just to get out and enjoy the woods and the beautiful views. I feel recharged.

Some more pictures are here if you are interested.

Out of the Woods

I got back last night from a trip up north to hunt deer on some family land. Had a pretty good hunt and ended up with a young buck. The deer population in the area is high and the deer look to be very healthy. It sure is relaxing sitting out in the beautiful Minnesota woods, relaxing, watching the birds and squirrels play, and waiting for that deer to come along. I've been reading a bit on deer management and have decided that when I go back up to hunt again next week that I'll focus on getting a doe and let the other bucks remian. It sounds like there's a need for maintaining a stronger buck population and thinning the does right now. This should make for a stronger herd.

Great Quotes from General Patton

My dad who is a WW2 vet has told me how my uncle Les who was also a WW2 vet was so fond of his general Patton. He said that Les would have even voted for Patton for president if he ever ran. I remember what an amazing man my uncle Les was. He was so wise, kind, softspoken, and strong, much like my dad. Because of this, I greatly respect his impression of Patton. Here are a few famous quotes from General Patton, a man who like George Bush, pretty much just called them as he saw them. I love clear unambiguous thinkers and speakers.
  • "War is an art and as such is not susceptible of explanation by fixed formula"
  • "All men are timid on entering any fight. Whether it is the first or the last fight, all of us are timid. Cowards are those who let their timidity get the better of their manhood."
  • "Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory."
  • "Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom."
  • "Courage is fear holding on a minute longer."
  • "Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity."
  • "Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack."
  • "Moral courage is the most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men."
  • "There's a great deal of talk about loyalty from the bottom to the top. Loyalty from the top down is even more necessary and is much less prevalent. One of the most frequently noted characteristics of great men who have remained great is loyalty to their subordinates."
  • "Perpetual peace is a futile dream."
  • "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
  • "A good plan executed today is better than a perfect plan executed at some indefinite point in the future."
